Home Department notifies on state-wide mass social work on November 12.

DIMAPUR — The Home Department has decided to hold a state-wide mass social work on November 12, aiming to ensure cleanliness, enhance hygiene, and beautify public places/areas in the state, as part of preparations for the upcoming festive season.
According to a DIPR report, the mass social work shall be held across the state involving the government employees with the active participation of the general public.
The deputy commissioners of respective districts will co-ordinate and take steps for ensuring the full participation of all the government departments/offices and the urban local bodies (ULBs), for successful conduct of the social work.
The DCs will also actively reach out for ensuring the maximum participation of the general public in co-ordination with the civil society organisations and the village councils.
During the mass social work, the following points, among others, shall be taken care of:
a) All building materials stacked on the road sides should be immediately removed.
b) Latrines, pig stys discharging their waste on the road side should be removed/demolished.
c) Shops in the town should have proper signboards with proper lighting at night. The damaged/defaced signages should be redone. The shops and business establishments should also be encouraged to repaint.
d) Villages on the highways (both National and State) should take responsibility for vegetation clearance on the road stretch in their respective jurisdiction. The NHIDCL/Works & Housing/Rural Development Departments, as the case may be, shall coordinate and take further steps in this regard and issue separate instructions.
e) Dividers along the Dimapur-Kohima highway will be cleaned by the village authorities under whose jurisdiction the stretches fall.
f) The district administration and Agri-allied departments will coordinate for working out aesthetically pleasing with similar design for the vegetable vendor stalls, marketing sheds etc. on the road sides along the highways.
The Urban Development department, along with ULBs, will ensure proper sanitation along roads. This includes ensuring meat shops sell meat covered to maintain hygiene and prevent contamination, and launching a special drive to clean up plastic waste in towns.
The Departments of School Education, Higher Education and Technical Education shall issue separate instructions on participation during the mass social work.
Further, the DCs shall constitute special teams to conduct surprise checks to ensure that the directions are implemented.
“Strict action may be initiated against non-participants and appreciation may be provided at the level of the DPDBs for significant contribution during the mass social work,” the report stated.
