one-day district-level workshop on Pre-conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic
Techniques (PC-PNDT) Act, gender based violence and medico legal care for
survivors or victims of sexual violence was held at the conference hall of the
chief medical officer's (CMO) office in Wokha town on Thursday.
- Dr. Thungchanbemo Ezung, CMO of Wokha, welcomed the medical
officers and registered medical practitioners and gave a brief introduction on
the importance of PC-PNDT Act. He also encouraged them to strengthen and
implement the act at their respective health facilities.
- An update from CMO stated that tesource person, Dr. Mhajan
Kikon, medical officer of Englan PHC, reminded that the main objective of
implementing the PC- PNDT Act was to stop female foeticides and prevent sex
determination. He highlighted on the objectives of the law, trainings required
by medical practitioner, fines imposed on offenders, constitution of statutory
bodies at state and district level.
- Dr. Kikon informed that currently seven clinics are
registered in Wokha under the Act. He also briefed the participants on the
features of Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Bill (POCSO).
- During the second session, Mhonbeni Ezung, district
programme manager, spoke on services under Mission Shakti, umbrella scheme for
safety, security and empowerment of women.
