Dimapur, April 3 (EMN): The new advisor of Horticulture department, Mhathung Yanthan said Nagaland has lot of potential to develop in the field of horticulture. To pursue this, he called upon the department officers to sincerely work for farmers.
The advisor was speaking at a felicitation and introductory programme organised for him by the department, on April 3 at the Directorate of Horticulture conference hall. Updates from department on Tuesday informed about the event. A press release received from department informed.
Yanthan remarked that the need of the hour is to change in approach, thinking, planning and to keep pace with technology.
Informing that many village people have already given up farming, Yanthan said the role of the department is to identify and research what went wrong. He also questioned the aspect of the market chain and lack of technical knowledge.
It is important to identify what will be suitable to benefit the farmers and motivate and share various ideas to explore ways and means, the advisor said. Adding that all funds should reach to those working in the grass root level, he emphasized on imparting skill development and training programmes.
The chairman of the programme, by secretary of the department, Alan Gonmei, said the department is lucky to have the advisor who has vast knowledge and experiences.
Director and mission director (MIDH), Dr. R Elithung Lotha highlighted the activities of the department.
