Nagaland Governor PB Acharya gets additional charge of Manipur

Imphal, June 27 (EMN): Nagaland Governor Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya on Thursday sworn in as the governor of Manipur at Raj Bhavan in Imphal.

In addition to his duties as Nagaland governor, Acharya will discharge the functions of Manipur Governor Dr. Najma Heptulla, who will be on leave for a month.

In a video message here, she said, “I will be away to US for my annual visit to meet my children and I wish my people of Manipur a good monsoon and a very peaceful atmosphere and I hope to see you after a month.”

Senior Judge Justice Lanusungkum Jamir of High Court of Manipur administered the oath of office and secrecy to Acharya during a solemn function at Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan in Imphal.

Chief Minister Biren Singh, cabinet ministers, members of State Legislative Assembly, chief secretary, senior officers and public leaders attended the function.

Former Chief Minister Radhabinod Koijam and opposition congress MLA AK Mirabai was also present.

Speaking to media persons after the swearing in ceremony, Acharya said that governor is the constitutional head of the state and that he will discharge his constitutional duties.

“A lot of things can be done to strengthen India and all the states should be equally developed,” he remarked.

Prior to the swearing in ceremony, Acharya inspected the guard of honour.
