Nagaland government provides INR 27 lakh in ex-gratia payments

Relief Rehabilitation Branch of Home department paid an ex gratia compensation
amount of INR 27 lakh to 13 victims who were either injured or killed while
performing various government duties during the year 2024-25.
- This was mentioned in the department’s annual administrative
report for 2024-25.
- The report explained that public servants who are killed or
injured while executing bona fide government duty are entitled to and paid ex
gratia depending on the status and nature of duty. And civilians killed due to
uncalled-for action on the part of government officials on duty, police
personnel and civilians killed in terrorist-related incidents are also paid ex
gratia.
- It was stated in the report that the 2024-25 budget
allocation for ex gratia was INR 60 lakh, and to date a total amount of INR 27
lakh has been sanctioned.
- Also, a cash relief amount of INR 32 lakh has been
sanctioned to needy persons of the state. It mentioned that the cash relief
under cash doles is granted to the poor, distressed, old-age, physically
challenged, and most needy persons.
- The report indicated that the 2024-25 budget allocation
under cash doles was INR 30 lakh, and to date a total amount of INR 32,41,000
has been sanctioned.
- Details of the expenditure show that INR 18,95,000 was
reimbursed to Advisor for RR for various cash relief assistance; INR 7,36,000
was given as cash relief assistance to 76 applicants; and an amount of INR
6,10,000 was given to Naga Students' Federation (demolition of office).
- Under the Nagaland Victim Compensation Scheme (NVCS), which
provides compensation to those who have suffered loss or injury as a result of
crime, a total amount of INR 17,50,000 was sanctioned to 16 victims covered
under the scheme.
- Also, under the compensation scheme for women victims or
survivors of sexual assault and other crimes, a total amount of INR 15 lakh was
allocated for the purpose for 2024-25; meanwhile, the report stated that no
fund has been utilised to date under the scheme.
