Nagaland’s inter-department table tennis tournament begins Sept. 4 in Kohima, featuring team and singles events for government employees

KOHIMA — The Inter-Department Table Tennis Tournament 2026 will be held from Sept. 4 to 5 at the Indoor TT Stadium, Officers Hill, Kohima.
The tournament is being organised by the NIAPA Khelo India Centre, Chümoukedima, in collaboration with the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, Nagaland, and is open to government employees across departments.
The two-day tournament will feature team and singles events in an open, gender-neutral format. The team event will follow a league-cum-knockout format, comprising two singles and one doubles match, while the singles event will be played on a knockout basis. All matches will be best-of-five.
The tournament will allow each participating department to field one State- or national-level player in its team. The initiative, according to the organisers, is aimed at raising the competitive standard while providing professional players an opportunity to receive support and remuneration.
The winner of the team event will receive INR 20,000 and a citation, while the runner-up will receive INR 15,000. The third- and fourth-placed teams will receive INR 10,000 and INR 5,000 respectively.

The entry fee is INR 3,000 per team, with Sept. 2 as the deadline for registration.

Meanwhile, the NIAPA Khelo India Centre continues to provide free table tennis training to children below 14 years of age in Chümoukedima as part of its grassroots sports development initiatives.
