Dimapur, Feb. 22 (EMN): As petrol and diesel prices continue to soar across the country due to rise in global crude oil rates, the government of Nagaland on Monday cut taxes on fuel with effect from February 22 midnight.
In a notification on Monday, the Finance department informed that the state government has decided to reduce the rate of tax on petrol and other motor spirit from the existing INR 18.26 per litre to INR 16.04 per litre (whichever is higher).
It added that the rate of tax on diesel has been reduced from the existing INR 11.08 per litre to INR 10.51 per litre (whichever is higher).
The slash in state taxes will mean consumers will get a relief of INR 2.22 per litre for petrol and other motor spirit, and 0.57 paise per litre for diesel.
On Monday, petrol was priced at INR 93.01 per litre and INR 83.92 per litre for diesel in Dimapur, while in Kohima, petrol was priced at INR 93.93 per litre and INR 84.65 per litre for diesel.
Following the cut in taxes, petrol may cost approximately INR 90.79 per litre and INR 83.35 per litre for diesel in Dimapur from Monday midnight, while petrol is expected to cost INR 91.71 per litre and INR 84.08 per litre for diesel in Kohima after the revised rates.
