Dimapur, March 14 (EMN): The Nagaland GB Federation has appealed to the state government to “start taking necessary precautionary measures” to combat the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
In a press release issued on Saturday, the federation stated that it is only a matter of time before the coronavirus reaches Nagaland.
“Presently, Dimapur is more vulnerable because of the railway and airport connection. It is time to install screening test in the airport and railway station, the opening of help desk, banning of public gathering, tourist, if needed closing down of schools for some days and preparing for quarantine in case of necessity, and intensive public awareness etc.
“Our living conditions are not to that standard as to tackle the massive outbreak of such pandemic. Therefore, it is our humble appeal to the government to take up all the measures to prevent the spread of the disease in our land,” it stated.
CPO bans tourists in Phek
Citing the coronavirus pandemic, the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) has banned tourists, “especially, the foreigners and people coming from the mainland”, from entering Phek district “unless valid and proper documents” are obtained from the authorities concerned.
A statement from the organisation on Saturday informed that it has also “strictly banned” hunting of animals. “To this end, CPO wants all its constituent units and frontal organisation of CYE, CSU and CMA to keep strict vigil”.
