Kohima, March 9 (EMN): For the first time, Nagaland and ten other states have got their own Doordarshan (DD) Free Dish, a free-to-air satellite television service owned by public service broadcaster Prasar Bharati.
The service will cover five Northeast states including Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura, and six other India states -- Chhattisgarh, Goa, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Uttarakhand.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to the social media on Saturday to congratulate the 11 states that have got DD channels for the first time.
“Glad to note that Prasar Bharati has brought 11 more State DD Channels on the Satellite footprint of India through DD Free Dish. This includes five channels for Northeastern states. This will go a long way in strengthening regional cultures and fulfilling people's aspirations,” PM Modi tweeted.
“These State channels represent the regional aspirations of the local population. Providing a satellite network for these channels through DD Free Dish will not only increase visibility of these channels in the Regions, but also give them an all-India presence. The increased accessibility to regional broadcast will help promote regional culture and give opportunities to local talent as well,” read a statement from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
