Nagaland prepares to celebrate National Sports Day and Khelo India Samwad on August 27 across 21 venues.
KOHIMA — Nagaland will join the nationwide celebration of National Sports Day and Khelo India Samvad 2026 on August 27, with programmes to be organised across different venues in the state.
This was announced during a press conference held on Monday by District Youth Officer Pradeep J of My Bharat Kohima, along with Ruokuovikho Chale, State Accounts and Programme Supervisor of My Bharat Nagaland.
Pradeep stated that the National Sports Day celebration, held annually in honour of hockey icon Major Dhyan Chand, is being organised on August 27 this year in line with a special national schedule.
He informed that the nationwide programme will focus on youth participation, sports development, and nation-building under the Khelo India Samvad initiative, during which Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to virtually address over eight lakh young participants across 1,600 locations.
In the Kohima district, the programme will be held simultaneously at Don Bosco College and Kohima Science College under the Yuva Connect initiative, where participants, guests, students, and My Bharat volunteers have been asked to be seated by 10 am.

The programme will feature interactions between youth and local sports personalities, including archers Limshito Yumchunger and Rovine Domeh, with a dedicated session planned for My Bharat volunteers.
Pradeep stated that the event will provide a platform for discussions on the growth of sports infrastructure and the evolving sports ecosystem, while local dignitaries will address and inspire the youth.
A 15-minute youth dialogue will also be organised, where participants will deliberate on four key themes: strengthening the grassroots sports ecosystem, nurturing talent for the 2036 Olympics, enhancing youth leadership, and empowering youth for a developed India through future-ready skills and volunteering.
Ideas and aspirations shared by the youth will be collected through a QR code, and participants at both venues will take part in an interactive quiz.
Chale informed that 21 venues across Nagaland have been identified for the programme, and My Bharat Nagaland is closely coordinating with the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, led by Commissioner and Secretary Anthony Ngullie.
He stated that the programme is expected to be conducted purposefully for the larger interest of the youth and the sports fraternity.
My Bharat will coordinate the invitation of legislators, very important persons, and local sports icons, while the National Service Scheme will manage the venues, alongside eight young influencers, including singers and social media figures.
Besides Don Bosco College and Kohima Science College, the identified venues include Patkai Christian College and Tetso College in Chümoukedima, MGM College and Pranab College in Dimapur, Zisaji Presidency College in Kiphire, Yingli College in Longleng, Jubilee Memorial College and Fazl Ali College in Mokokchung, Wangkhao College and Newman Higher Secondary School in Tobu under Mon, Platinum College in Niuland, St. Xavier’s College and Peren Government College in Peren, Phek Government College and Pfütsero Government College in Phek, Sao Chang College in Tuensang, and Bailey Baptist College and Mount Tiyi College in Wokha.
