Nagaland: Four districts face heavy rain, thunderstorm alert

DIMAPUR — Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon and Wokha have been placed under a high alert for thunderstorms and scattered heavy rain on September 11, according to the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA).

The four-day weather outlook issued by NSDMA on Monday, covering September 8 to 11, also forecasts significant cumulative rainfall in several districts, with Mokokchung expected to receive the highest at 113.74 mm, followed by Wokha at 113.14 mm and Longleng at 101.82 mm.

Tseminyu is forecast to receive 94.27 mm during the period, while Mon, Tuensang and Kohima are expected to record 78.14 mm, 68.01 mm and 66.23 mm respectively.

Dimapur and Niuland are projected to receive 65.98 mm and 63.65 mm.

For September 8, moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is forecast in Tseminyu, Wokha and Zunheboto. Most other districts are expected to receive light to moderate rain, while Kiphire, Meluri and Mon face light rain.

On September 9, thunderstorms and lightning with light rain are forecast across much of the state, while Kiphire, Meluri and Mon face thunderstorm/lightning risk.

The outlook for September 10 indicates thunderstorm and lightning risk in Noklak, Phek, Tseminyu and Zunheboto, with light rain forecast in Kohima and Tuensang.

Cloudy or overcast conditions are expected in several other districts.

Besides the high alert for four districts on September 11, Tseminyu is forecast to receive moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms and lightning. Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Niuland and Tuensang are expected to receive light to moderate rain.
