Nagaland honoured top government school achievers of HSLC and HSSLC 2026 while recognising 22 schools with 100% pass results

22 government schools recognised for 100% board results
DIMAPUR, JUNE 19 (EMN) — The Directorate of School Education, Nagaland, felicitated meritorious government school students who excelled in the HSLC and HSSLC Examinations 2026 during the Nagaland Government School Students' Meritorious Award (NGSSMA) 2026 programme held at the Morung conference hall, Directorate of School Education, Kohima, on June 18.
According to a DIPR report, the event also recognised 22 government schools that achieved a 100 per cent pass percentage in the HSLC and HSSLC Examinations 2026.
Addressing the gathering as the special guest, Advisor for School Education & SCERT, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, said government schools have shown significant improvement and are now on par with private schools.
Congratulating the awardees, Yhome said they have emerged as the best performers among their peers and brought pride to their schools, families and the state.
Highlighting the Vidyadhan Scholarship Programme, Yhome said it is exclusively meant for students from government schools.
He informed that students securing 75 per cent and above are eligible to apply for the scholarship, which provides financial support up to graduation.
He urged eligible students not to miss the opportunity and said the department would identify students who have secured 75 per cent and above.
Yhome also noted that although Nagaland was the 16th state to be formed in the country, it has become the third most literate state in India.
He said the state possesses immense human resource potential and observed that girls have consistently outperformed boys in recent years.
He also congratulated the 22 government schools that recorded a 100 per cent pass percentage in the 2026 board examinations.
Principal Director of School Education, Shashank Pratap Singh, said the programme celebrates academic excellence, perseverance, dedication and the remarkable achievements of students who had brought pride to their schools, families and communities.
He said the occasion is not only about recognising academic excellence but also about appreciating the hard work, discipline, determination and resilience demonstrated by the students.
Singh reiterated the state government's commitment to strengthening the education system through improved infrastructure, enhanced teacher capacity-building programmes and student support initiatives to ensure every learner has access to quality education and opportunities for excellence.
Commissioner & Secretary, School Education & SCERT, Kevileno Angami, delivered a congratulatory message, congratulating all students who successfully passed the 2026 board examinations.
She said their achievements reflected determination and perseverance, and also acknowledged the contributions of school heads, teachers and other stakeholders in their success.
Awards were presented to the top-performing government school students in the HSLC and HSSLC Examinations 2026.
In the HSLC category, Sreeniti Mahapatra of GHS Yachem secured first position, followed by Visezono Vakha of Rüzhükhrie GHSS, Kohima, and Shilunungtet of Subong GHS, Mongsenyimti.
In the HSSLC Arts stream, Pooja Bharti of PM Shri GHSS, Chümoukedima, secured first position, followed by Khekavi Yepthomi of GHSS, Purana Bazar, and Rhonthunglo Lotha of GHSS, Wokha.
In the Commerce stream, Keneisienuo Seyie of Rüzhükhrie GHSS, Kohima, secured first position, while Vimethanyu Nagi and Khusi Khadka, both from GHSS Jotsoma, secured second and third positions respectively.
In the Science stream, Moaakum T Longkumer of PM Shri Mayangnokcha GHSS secured first position, followed by Anadil Raza of the same school and Yinwang Peter of Rüzhükhrie GHSS, Kohima.
The programme also featured experience-sharing sessions by Sreeniti Mahapatra, Pooja Bharti and Moaakum T Longkumer.
Programme Associate Balarilhun Lyngkhoi of the Sarojini Damodaran Foundation, Bengaluru, gave a presentation on the Vidyadhan Scholarship Programme.
The scholarship, an initiative of the Sarojini Damodaran Foundation founded by Infosys co-founder SD Shibulal in partnership with the Department of School Education, Nagaland, supports meritorious students from government schools belonging to economically disadvantaged families.
Under the programme, selected students in Classes XI and XII will receive financial assistance until graduation, ranging from INR 25,000 to INR 75,000 per year depending on the course pursued.
Beneficiaries also receive career counselling, mentorship, soft-skills training and employability workshops.
Certificates were also presented to the 22 government schools that achieved a 100 per cent pass percentage in the HSLC and HSSLC Examinations 2026.
