Nagaland Excise Department destroys seized drugs worth INR 2.4 crore in Dimapur; Narcotic Cell seizes brown sugar worth INR 12.5 lakh.

DIMAPUR — Seized drugs worth approximately INR 2.4 crore were destroyed under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and court orders on Tuesday at the Excise Directorate Complex, Dimapur.
The destruction was carried out in the presence of the duly constituted Drugs Disposal Committee and senior officers of the department. According to an update, the seized drugs were destroyed by incineration.
The destroyed items were seizures made by the two enforcement wings based in Dimapur, namely the District Excise and Narcotic Cell. The destroyed drugs consisted of 483 bottles of codeine-laced cough syrup, 1,175 grams of heroin, 243 tablets and capsules of contraband drugs were seized
The destruction process was carried out through approved incineration methods at the authorised facility, following environmental and safety guidelines prescribed by the Nagaland Pollution Control Board.
This initiative reflects the continued commitment of the department to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse and to ensure that seized narcotics do not re-enter circulation. The department reiterated its firm resolve to take stringent action against those involved in the illegal drug trade.
During the destruction, reports of the seized items were read out by the superintendents of Excise Dimapur District and the Narcotic Cell. The Additional Commissioner of Excise, S Chanlei Angh, commended the Excise enforcement personnel for their efforts in curbing illegal drug activities despite a shortage of manpower, lack of technical support and surveillance equipment.
One arrested in opium seizure case
Meanwhile, the Narcotic Cell personnel on duty seized suspected opium (brown sugar) weighing 250 grams (approx.) valued at INR 12.5 lakh on February 19 from a petrol pump near DDSC Stadium, Dimapur, and arrested one accused for illegal trafficking of the contraband.
The case is now under investigation, and the accused is under judicial custody awaiting the FSL test report.
Members of the public have been urged to cooperate with the department by providing credible information related to drug trafficking and abuse. Informers are protected under applicable law, and personal identity will not be disclosed.
