Polling will take place in 59 of the 60 assembly constituencies across 16 districts from 7 am to 4 pm on February 27, before the votes are counted on March 2, to decide the fate of 183 candidates, including four women, who are in the fray.
Kazheto Kinimi of BJP was earlier declared elected unopposed from 31 Akuluto AC after his lone opponent from the Indian National Congress withdrew his candidature.
A total of 12 political parties, namely NDPP- 40 seats, BJP- 20, CPI- 1, INC- 23, NCP- 12, NPP- 12 , NPF- 22, RPP- 1, JD(U)- 1, LJP (RV)- 15, RPI (A)- 9 and RJD- 3; and 19 Independent candidates are contesting in this election.

A total of 13,17,634 (around 13.17 lakh) people, including 6,55,144 women (approx. 6.55 lakh) and 7,983 service voters are eligible to cast vote in the state. There are 6,970 Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) electors and 36,403 senior citizens (80+), while there are no third gender voters in the state.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Nagaland, V Shashank Shekhar, had earlier informed that the state assembly election will be conducted in 2,315 polling stations -- 351 urban and 1734 rural -- out of which 10 will be managed by PwDs and 196 by women.
‘Out of the total polling stations, 680 have been identified as vulnerable and 924 critical as of now but this is dynamic and keeps changing,’ Shekhar had earlier said.
He added that a total of 305 companies of Central Police Armed Forces (CAPF) had been approved for the conduct of the general election. Dimapur, Feb. 25 (EMN)
