Colleges and schools across Nagaland celebrate National Sports Day 2026 with Khelo India Samvaad and interaction with athletes.
WOKHA /DIMAPUR — Multiple educational institutions across Nagaland observed National Sports Day on Thursday by conducting ‘Khelo India Samvaad’ and tuning into the virtual address of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Wokha: In Wokha, Bailey Baptist College and Mount Tiyi College joined the nationwide celebration by facilitating the live telecast of the prime minister's address at their respective premises.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Mount Tiyi College organised the Khelo India Samvaad 2026 at the college’s conference hall. The programme featured a moderated discussion with national badminton player Erenbeni P Lotha and MY Bharat volunteer Jandemo M Lotha.
The interaction focused on youth participation, sports, leadership, fitness, and the role of young people in nation-building.
Deputy Chairman of Wokha Town Council, Nzano P Lotha Kikon, attended the event as the special invitee and urged students to make meaningful use of opportunities, remain physically and mentally fit, and actively contribute to their communities. She highlighted that initiatives such as Khelo India Samvaad provide platforms for direct interaction with youth, help identify grassroots infrastructure gaps, and nurture sporting talent.
At Bailey Baptist College, students and faculty gathered to watch the broadcast, followed by an interaction with local sports icon Santsuthung Ngullie, a 3rd Dan black belt and Joint Secretary of the Nagaland Taekwondo Association.
Ngullie encouraged students to view sports as a discipline and lifestyle, applauding government initiatives to create avenues for youth and urging them to balance academics with athletics.
College Principal T Penthungo Lotha expressed appreciation for hosting the event, noting that similar programmes were being conducted across institutions nationwide.
Dimapur: In Dimapur, MGM College conducted the Khelo India Samvaad under Category B. As part of the programme, students of MGM Higher Secondary School were invited to witness the virtual address of the prime minister.
Following the address, a Yuva Samvaad was organised by the NSS unit of MGM College, providing young participants with an opportunity to interact, exchange ideas, and draw inspiration from the experiences of young achievers.
The highlight of the session was an interaction with Kevin, an international Pencak Silat athlete from Nagaland. He shared his personal journey, speaking about the challenges he encountered, his achievements, and the importance of dedication, discipline, perseverance, and hard work in pursuing excellence.
A representative from MYBharat also delivered a PowerPoint presentation introducing the MYBharat portal and highlighting the wide range of opportunities available to young people for participation, learning, volunteering, and nation-building.
Mon: In Tobu, Mon, the NSS Unit of Newman Higher Secondary School organised the event.
On the occasion, Joseph Leangen Konyak, Programme Officer of the NSS Unit, highlighted the significance of the day and delivered the keynote address, encouraging students to embrace sports as an integral part of a healthy life.
Local sportsperson Joshua Swu attended as the special guest and spoke about promoting sports at the grassroots level, encouraging young people to identify and develop their sporting talents early. He highlighted opportunities available through initiatives like Khelo India and stressed the importance of having role models.
Principal Rev. Fr. Kevishe Solomon highlighted the considerable sporting talent among Naga youth but observed that many fail to progress due to excessive involvement in celebrations and other undesirable influences. He urged students to remain focused, disciplined, and committed.
