Dimapur, Dec. 21 (EMN): The Election Commission of India (ECI) held a video conference on December 19 with nodal officers on election expenditure monitoring for the upcoming general election to Nagaland Legislative Assembly 2023.
An update from the Election department stated that the video conference was chaired by deputy election commissioner, Ajay Bhadoo. The video conference was a preliminary review on preparedness of various law enforcement agencies on election monitoring. The main function of the election monitoring team was to curb use of money power in elections through constant vigil and internal assessments and proactive actions through deployment of enforcement agencies.
In the meeting, it was discussed that the Income Tax department would be setting up a control room at Dimapur, a camp office at Kohima and monitoring teams in all 16 districts of Nagaland comprising two officers and 5-6 inspectors.
The video conference was attended by Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) V Shashank Shekhar, additional CEO Ruokuovituo Khezhie, joint CEOs Awa Lorin and Sharon Longchari along with nodal officers from Police, Income Tax Nagaland, Taxes, Excise, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Enforcement Directorate (ED), Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (Dimapur regional unit), Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Central Goods and Service Tax (CGST), state level bankers committee (SLBC), CISF (Dimapur airport), Airport Authority of India, Dimapur, department of Post, Railways and Assam Rifles.
