Dimapur, Feb. 4 (EMN): Three beautified dumping spots initiated under ‘Green awareness campaign cum cleanliness drive 2022’ by Ronika Miachieo, an environmentalist, were inaugurated by the advisor of Urban Development, Neikiesalie Kire; advisor of Power, H Tovihoto Ayemi, and the additional deputy commissioner of Dimapur, Temsuwati Longkumer respectively on Friday.

The three beautified spots are located at Power House Colony, Namgalong Colony and Electrical Power Office Sub-division II. Plantation drives were also held along the road side with participants from six colonies including Dr. Haralu Colony, Namgalong Colony, Old Over Bridge Colony, East Police Colony, Power House Colony, Bank Colony and Burma Camp Ward-5, Dimapur.

Miachieo informed that the project of beautifying the dumping sites started in March 2021 and completed on January 2022. She expressed that her motive was to encourage the citizens to be more responsible and keep the environment clean.

She appealed to the residents not to dump waste again in the beautified areas or destroy the properties but asked them to continue maintaining the areas and also take care of the trees planted at the sites.

She also expressed that the public should be responsible enough to keep their environment clean. Further, she expressed her gratitude to everyone who had helped her physically and financially towards making the project a success.

Speaking at the function, Kire stated that ‘we should encourage the citizens who are willing to work for the welfare of the society’ and challenged everyone to clean their own surroundings and not rely on others. He also appealed to the Dimapur citizens to take care of the environment like their own saying that with such attitude “we will definitely see changes in few years.”

Ayemi asserted that that before the dumping sites were beautified, it was an “eyesore” and expressed that cleaning one’s own house and compound is the most basic things. He remarked that such initiative would gradually keep the city clean.

Meanwhile, the administrator of Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), Albert Ezung expressed delight to see people come forward these days and assist in many social works. “We see lots of improvements but there are still lots of works to be done as we have to take things forward for a bigger change,” he added.

Short speeches were also delivered by Kenei sekhose, chairman of Dr. Haralu Colony; Visakholie Angami, youth president of Dr. Haralu Colony; and ADC Temsuwati Longkumer.
