Nagaland records no successful candidates in UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025, marking second consecutive year without selection from state.

KOHIMA — The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Friday declared the final results of Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2025, but no candidate from Nagaland figured in the list of recommended candidates this year.
This marks the second consecutive year that no candidate from the state has been selected for the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Police Service, and Central Services, Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’.
In the two cycles prior, candidates from Nagaland had secured success in the examination. In UPSC 2023 (results declared in 2024), four candidates from the state were selected, securing ranks of AIR 431, AIR 749, AIR 774 and AIR 915.

Similarly, in UPSC 2022 (results declared in 2023), four candidates had cleared the examination with ranks of AIR 203, AIR 387, AIR 723 and AIR 874.
According to UPSC, the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2025 was conducted on May 25, with 9,37,876 candidates applying for the examination. Of these, 5,76,793 candidates appeared.
A total of 14,161 candidates qualified for the Written (Main) Examination held in August 2025, while 2,736 candidates qualified for the Personality Test.
The Commission has recommended 958 candidates—659 men and 299 women—for appointment to various services.
Among the recommended candidates, the top five comprise four men and one woman, while the top 25 include 11 women and 14 men.
The recommended list also includes 42 Persons with Benchmark Disability, comprising 10 orthopedically handicapped, 14 visually challenged, nine hearing impaired and nine with multiple disabilities.
Anuj Agnihotri secured the first position in the Civil Services Examination, 2025. He qualified the examination with Medical Science as his optional subject and completed his MBBS from AIIMS, Jodhpur.
For this year, the only Naga who cleared the UPSC exam was Dr. Vapani John Tao (medical doctor) from Oinam village in Manipur, who secured All India Rank 800.
