NSDMA intensifies monsoon relief, airlifting 189 stranded people and dispatching essential supplies to road-isolated districts across Nagaland.
DIMAPUR — With several districts still reeling from landslides, floods and disrupted road connectivity, the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has intensified relief operations, evacuating 189 stranded people by air while stepping up the distribution of food, medical supplies and financial assistance across the state.
According to a press release issued by the NSDMA on Friday, relief efforts are being carried out in close coordination with District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs), district administrations and line departments to ensure timely assistance reaches affected communities.
With road links to Mon and Longleng remaining disrupted, the NSDMA requisitioned Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft to evacuate stranded passengers and airlift essential relief supplies. A state government helicopter, requisitioned through the Nagaland State Transport (NST), was also deployed to support the operation.
On July 23 and 24, the IAF evacuated 148 stranded passengers, including 43 from Mon and 105 from Longleng, while the state helicopter airlifted another 41 passengers from Mon district.
Those evacuated included students and Nagaland Public Service Commission Combined Educational Services Examination (NPSC CESE) aspirants stranded due to damaged road connectivity.
The airlifted relief consignments comprised food supplies arranged by the NSDMA through the department of Food and Civil Supplies, medical kits and clothing contributed by Konyak Students' Union Kohima and additional relief materials mobilised through the DonateKart Foundation for distribution in disaster-hit areas.
On the ground, relief operations also continued across affected districts. A mini truck carrying relief materials was dispatched from Mokokchung headquarters to Tuli, followed by a second consignment, while supplies were also delivered to Patizung ward for onward distribution. Ration assistance was provided to stranded and displaced families in Changtongya.
The DDMA Wokha disbursed Emergency Relief Fund (ERF) assistance to families whose houses and retaining walls were damaged by landslides.
In Shamator, Deputy Commissioner and DDMA Chairman Arikumba handed over immediate relief assistance to two families whose homes were damaged by landslides in Shamator town.
Similarly, the DDMA Zunheboto provided ERF assistance to five families affected by recent landslides. The assistance was handed over by Deputy Commissioner and DDMA Chairman Dharam Raj.
The NSDMA added that it has also been releasing financial assistance to all districts to facilitate road restoration and debris clearance in disaster-affected areas.
