DIMAPUR — Amid growing concerns over food safety and sanitation in Dimapur, the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) has directed all meat vendors within its jurisdiction to strictly maintain hygiene standards and operate only from authorised market spaces, warning that violators would face eviction and penal action.
In a notification issued following multiple complaints from the public, the civic body said that several butchers and vendors dealing in chicken, pork, beef, mutton, fish and other meat products were allegedly found handling and selling items in unhygienic conditions.
The council stated that all meat products must be handled, stored, displayed and sold in a clean and sanitary manner in accordance with food safety norms and public health regulations.
Vendors were also instructed to maintain cleanliness in and around their stalls, including equipment and waste disposal areas, to prevent health hazards and unsanitary conditions in market areas.

The DMC further ordered that all meat and related products must be sold strictly within allotted market spaces, licensed stalls or designated locations approved by the council.
It prohibited the sale or display of meat products along roadsides, footpaths and other unauthorised locations within the municipal area.
Warning of strict action, the council stated that any vendor found violating the order would be liable for penal measures, including immediate removal or eviction of unauthorised setups without further notice, besides action under relevant municipal and public health laws.
