
The deputy commissioner and district officer of Dimapur and Kohima held meetings with the representatives of political parties in their respective districts on Saturday and briefed them of the guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for the upcoming state election.
In Dimapur, the deputy commissioner, Sachin Jaiswal, briefed the representatives from NDPP, BJP, NPF, INC and RPP on the guidelines of the Election Commission with regard to approval from media certification and monitoring committee for any political related advertisement and news. He also apprised them for taking permission from the RO, 48 hours before holding any political rallies, meetings etc., stated a DIPR report.
Sachin also informed the political parties about the ceiling expenditure of a candidate which should not exceed INR 28 lakhs per candidate from the date of filing of nomination of a candidate till the date of counting results. Sachin specifically explained about the hoarding spaces earmarked for displaying advertisement in public places, if any, and added that the DEO should ensure all political parties and candidates get equitable opportunity for accessing such spaces through the municipal authority concerned.
The deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Vesupra, who also attended the meeting, briefed the representatives of political parties about the common offences like booth capturing, damage to EVM, impersonation and the legal proceedings thereof.
Report further stated that both the DC and DCP have sought cooperation from the political parties for ensuring free, fair and peaceful elections.
Meanwhile, rate chart for Dimapur district election expenditure monitoring was handed over to all the representatives of political parties.
Meanwhile, the DC of Dimapur informed the public that the district control centre, under District Election Office, Dimapur, has been made operational.
In this connection, public are asked to take assistance from the Dimapur district control center for any queries related to the upcoming state assembly election. Public are further asked to contact the officials on phone nos. 1950, 6009082491 and 03862-248009 for necessary information.
In Kohima, the deputy commissioner and district election officer of Kohima held a meeting with the representatives of political parties in his office’s conference on Friday.
During the meeting, the DC has explained all the legal provisions and instructions of the Election Commission relating to expenditure and its monitoring and the consequences of failure to comply with them. He also informed about the ceiling limit of expenditure for the upcoming election. Report added that the political parties were sensitised on various ECI instructions and guidelines on MCC, EE and IT related matters by the concerned nodal officers.
It stated that a total of 10 representatives of political parties attended the meeting. Later in the evening, a meeting of the district level standing committee on model code of conduct was held with the stakeholders.
