DIMAPUR — The Common Service Centre (CSC) Society of Dimapur, Niuland, and Chümoukedima has issued a public notice informing citizens that, as per recent government notifications, any PAN card not linked with Aadhaar will be deactivated.
The society has advised all citizens to complete the linking process if not already done.
In a press statement, the CSC Society noted that many people have begun to panic and that during such times, certain business operators and centres exploit the situation by overcharging or misleading citizens, particularly the elderly and those unfamiliar with online procedures.
To ensure public awareness and safety, the CSC Society of Dimapur, Niuland, and Chümoukedima issued a set of instructions and cautions.
It said that the government of India has fixed the late linking fee at INR 1,000 only, and no additional penalty is charged by the government beyond this amount. CSC centres may charge a nominal service fee ranging from INR 50 to INR 100 for assisting in the linking process.
Any charge exceeding this range will be considered overcharging, and citizens have been advised to report such cases to the concerned authorities.

When visiting any CSC or PAN service centre, citizens have been urged to ask the operator to display the screen showing their PAN–Aadhaar linking status. The society stated that in some instances, people have been wrongly informed that their PAN was not linked and were charged unnecessarily.
Citizens should ensure they see the confirmation message on the screen before making any payment.
The public can also verify their PAN–Aadhaar linking status free of cost on the official Income Tax Department website at eportal.incometax.gov.in.
Those who applied for a PAN card using their Aadhaar are informed that it is automatically linked, and no further action is required.
The CSC Society urged all citizens to remain alert and cautious while availing services from any CSC or PAN centre. It further advised the public not to panic or fall prey to misinformation.
Citizens have been encouraged to share the advisory, particularly with the elderly and those unfamiliar with online procedures, to prevent them from being deceived or overcharged.
