Dimapur, Oct. 30 (EMN): Deputy Chief Minister and in-charge of Home, Y Patton, informed that law and order situation in Nagaland was congenial barring few stray incidents and added that crime rate in the state was one of the lowest in the country.
Patton stated this in his presentation at the two-day meeting of Home ministers and DGP held in Haryana on October 27 and 28, which was chaired by the Union Home minister Amit Shah, an update from deputy CMO stated.
On AFSPA, Patton remarked that with the continuous improvement in law and order situation, there was reduction of AFSPA coverage in Nagaland by de- notifying 15 police stations from seven districts. He added that the state government, on its part, has geared up to take responsibilities of all the areas which have been taken out of AFSPA. Patton also stated that the state government has enhanced its capacities to respond appropriately and effectively on challenges arising due to the situation.
“We are also the second state in the Northeast to launch Tourist police unit in 2018 for maintaining security and safety of tourists,” Patton said. He also informed that anti- extortion cell in all the districts with a dedicated 24x7 control room at police headquarters have been set up.
As advised by MHA, Patton stated that Nagaland Police has also set up NCORD to control narcotics trafficking.
Meanwhile, Patton informed that Nagaland Police is mindful of the new threats concerning security and law and order emerging from cyberspace. He stated that national cybercrime reporting portal complaints are taken up and investigated and added that a cyber crime forensic and training lab has been established at Police Training School in Chümoukedima.
In one of the biggest seizure, Patton stated that Nagaland Police seized 290 gold bars worth INR 22.80 crore in market value in 2021.
Informing that Chintan Shivir has given insights on matters concerning internal security, law and order, policing, border issues administration of prisons and other connected subjects, Patton said Nagaland Police would continue seeking valuable advice and guidance of MHA and the Union Home Minister for achieving higher degree of success in every area.
Report further stated that the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, also addressed the programme on the closing day.
