- DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Pradesh Congress
Committee (NPCC) has expressed serious concern over the recent notifications
issued by the Department of Personnel & Administrative Reforms (Personnel
‘A’ Branch), government of Nagaland, on April 13 (a Sunday), which also
happened to be Palm Sunday, a sacred day for Christians.
- In a press release issued on Monday, the NPCC said that the
issuance of the two notifications relating to the transfer and posting of IAS
and NCS officers “sets a worrying precedent, as this is the first time transfer
orders have been issued on a Sunday in our state since it attained statehood in
1963.”
- “The fact that the day also happened to be Palm Sunday, a
day that holds huge religious and cultural importance for Christians all over
the world, lends the government's move all the more insensitive.”
- The NPCC urged the state government to act with more empathy
and not to allow the governance of Nagaland to be influenced by “Hindutva
ideology or the policies of the RSS”, which the committee alleged are far
removed from the beliefs and values of the Naga people.
- Further, the NPCC called upon the government to withdraw or
review the notifications and ensure that such actions do not become a trend.
