Dimapur, May 4 (EMN): As part of the pre-monsoon preparedness, a state-wide mass social work was conducted throughout the state on May 4. The mass social work was organised to prevent man-made disasters and contain spread of vector borne diseases such as malaria, dengue fever and Japanese encephalitis, which are common during monsoon.
Kohima: A mass social was successfully carried out in Kohima district with the involvement of the administration along with District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), government departments, wards/ colonies and business establishments.
All the 19 wards under Kohima municipal area and sub-divisions conducted the social work led by respective ward/ colony chairmen and district administrative officers in their respective areas.
Various departments and district offices designated at different locations carried out their respective assigned works along the main road stretch from NST Garage junction, Lerie till NPSC Office, New Secretariat Complex, Kohima. The social work was carried out under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, Anoop Khinchi.
Dimapur: Dimapur also participated in the state-wide pre- monsoon preparedness social work led by the Deputy Commissioner, Kevekha Kevin Zehol, and all head of offices by cleaning their respective office premises. During the social work, clogged drains and nullahs were cleared with the active participation of colony chairmen, GBs, residents of wards and colonies. People were seen clearing undesirable water loggings, rubbish dumps in the natural waterways for ensuring free flow of water to avoid flooding and damage of infrastructures. Dimapur Municipal Council had utilised all available machineries and removed all the collected waste/ debris.
Mon: Mass social work was conducted in Mon town with the participation of all the line departments by cleaning their own respective offices, surroundings and nullah/ drainage.
The administrative officers posted at Mon headquarters took the charge of one or two wards in order to supervise the social work. All the clogged drainage/ nullah and culverts were cleared during the social work.
Kiphire: Residents of Kiphire town and business community turned out in large number for the mass social work.
The mass social work was conducted to create awareness, educate the people to reduce the disruption impacts of natural disasters on communities. The participants cleared clogged drainages to prevent damage during heavy rainfall.
Mokokchung: The mass social work in Mokokchung was out under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Rajesh Soundararajan.
On the occasion, the DC appealed not to block drains but to keep them clear so that water could flow freely and dispose the waste materials in proper places. He also appealed not to dump or stock building and storage materials on roads and drains.
The social work was carried out with active participation from ward councils, Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), government departments, Non-government organisations including a team under Mokokchung Town Baptist Arogo (MTBA). The DC also visited the landslide area along Mokokchung- Mariani road under Mekuli village jurisdiction which has hindered vehicular movement. He had a consultation with the officials from the concerned department and urged them to maintain the road at the earliest so that vehicular movement along the route is not disrupted.
: Peren district successfully carried out the mass social work at New District Headquarters as well as in all townships and rural areas in the district. All head of departments complied to the calls of the government by clearing clogged drainages to ensure safety of the public from dangers of disaster.
: Zunheboto district carried out mass social work in both urban and rural sectors involving staff from all the departments as well as public. The mass social work was led by ADC Zunheboto, Ajit Kumar Ranjan.
The state-wide mass social work was necessitated for strengthening awareness and preparedness against any disaster during forthcoming monsoon and also to take preventive measures against any man-made disaster.
: In Phek town denizens from all walks of life participated in the mass social work and cleared up debris and garbage and also cleared up the surroundings of the town. Deputy Commissioner, Phek, Sachin Jaiswal, thanked the people of Phek town for the actively participating and making the mass social work a success.
: In Tuensang, the mass social work was successfully carried with the active participation of all the head of offices along with the staff and public. The activities included clearing of clogged drainage, culvert, natural water ways and mass cleanliness drive of the town. District administration also directed to clear all the broken-down vehicles kept by the road side.
The district administration called upon all the citizens of Tuensang to take responsibility and make Tuensang safer and greener.
: Joining with the rest of the state, Wokha district also conducted social work in the all the colonies and government offices. The social work was especially focused on clearance of all clogged drains, culverts, natural waterways to ensure free flow of water in order to avoid flash floods and prevent damage of infrastructure.
Machineries were used to clear clogged drains and vehicles were also detailed in all the colonies and wards for picking up of garbage and waste. Officers were also deputed in all the colonies for monitoring the social work. Deputy Commissioner, Wokha, Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon visited colonies to supervise the works.
