Dimapur, Nov. 6 (EMN): President of Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), Chingwang Konyak, stated that the 2018 pre-poll alliance with the BJP has proven to be “successful” as it has delivered a “stable government” till date, and expressed confidence that the alliance would be strengthened further in the upcoming 2023 Assembly elections.
He was speaking during a meeting at Town Hall, Peren on Nov. 5 as part of his presidential tour of the region.
The two MLAs representing Peren district, T R Zeliang and Namri Nchang, and a host of central office bearers, office bearers of Peren region and members from the two assembly constituencies under Peren district attended the meeting.
Konyak also clarified that the ongoing tour was aimed at strengthening the NDPP as an organisation and not as a campaign for the upcoming elections, an update from NDPP media cell said on Sunday.
He further clarified that at a time when Nagas were earnestly awaiting a final settlement to the Indo-Naga issue, “the present tour programme of the NDPP must not be misconstrued as going against the sentiments of the people since this is entirely an internal party exercise to meet and re-strengthen the party at the grassroots.”
He further called upon the members of the NDPP Peren region and the assembly constituencies of Peren and Tening to “leave behind past differences and start working in unison towards achieving the goal of having both the elected members of Peren district from the NDPP party”.
The programme was chaired by Penamwini, President of the Agri and Allied Organisation, Peren region; and an invocation prayer by Amos License, Pastor Liangmai Baptist Church, Peren.
The welcome address was given by Ziekuidi Zeliang, President of NDPP Peren region and an introductory note was delivered by Charlie Sekhose, senior vice president, NDPP.
