Dimapur, March 28 (EMN): Several matters such as North East Region Power System Improvement Project (NERPSIP), expansion of transmission networks, expansion of reliable communication, development of hydro plants, etc., were discussed at the 22nd meeting of North Eastern Regional Power Committee (NERPC) held in Guwahati on Monday.
Chaired by the chairman of NERPC, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, the meeting was attended by Power ministers of the north-eastern region (NER) states, power generation and distribution companies, and higher management of various central and state power utilities, informed an update received on Monday.
Rio said that the NERPC forum is best suited for deliberation and fruitful resolution of inter-regional power sector issues and urged the member states of the region to utilize the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) to strengthen the distribution network and capacity building of DISCOMs and Power departments.
“Attended NERPC meeting at Guwahati as Chairman. On behalf of the NE states, I thank GoI for its support and implementation of various projects. Nagaland government will set up several hydro and solar power projects and new inter and intra state transmission lines will be taken up,” tweeted Nagaland CM on Monday.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=6]Maintaining that the Northeast is blessed with huge hydro potential, which needs to be harnessed, Convener and Member Secretary of NERPC meeting B Lyngkhoi ‘apprised the forum about the need for high scale upgrade in the transmission networks for evacuation of hydro power from the region’.
The technical issues were initially taken up in the Technical Coordination Committee (TCC) meeting of NER on March 26 under the Chairmanship of Penrithung Yanthan, Chief Engineer (T&G), Department of Power, Nagaland, it was informed.
“The recommendations of TCC have been referred to NERPC forum for the final ratification/approval,” read the update.
“With close co-ordination among the members of NER power utilities, the region can take stride in driving both economic and social prosperity of NER people,” it added.
