DIMAPUR — Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Saturday received Air India Express’ newly inducted Boeing 737-8 aircraft at Dimapur Airport, unveiled in a special livery inspired by the Tsüngkotepsü warrior shawl of the Ao tribe.
A press release issued by Air India stated that the launch marks the airline’s partnership as the official travel partner of Hornbill Festival 2025.
Traditional dancers welcomed the aircraft in a ceremony that highlighted Nagaland’s cultural spirit, it stated.
“The Hornbill Festival is a celebration of our identity, unity and artistic heritage,” Rio said. “The Tsüngkotepsü livery is a meaningful gesture that honours our traditions and carries a part of Nagaland’s story across India. This partnership will help us welcome more visitors and deepen cultural understanding.”

“The spirit of Hornbill resonates with our brand ethos. The Tsüngkotepsü-inspired livery is our tribute to Nagaland’s artistic legacy,” he said.
To boost festival travel, the airline has announced a 15% discount on tickets to and from Dimapur booked until December 10, for travel up to December 15, using the promo code HORNBILL.
Air India Express has also set up a Hornbill-themed photobooth at Dimapur Airport and a community art canvas at Kisama Heritage Village.
A contest offering free flights will run during the festival for travellers who upload photos taken at these installations and tag the airline on social media.
The airline currently operates daily Dimapur–Guwahati flights with onward one-stop connections to major metros including Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata and Patna. Across the Northeast, it operates 126 weekly flights from Guwahati and additional services connecting Agartala, Imphal and Dibrugarh.
Air India Express recently introduced upgraded cabin interiors on its Boeing 737-8 aircraft, featuring enhanced seating, USB charging, refreshed lighting and hot meal capability.
As part of its “Tales of India” series, the carrier’s fleet displays designs inspired by diverse regional textiles, including Akyobi, Moirang Phee, Saphee Lanphee, Gamosa, Jaapi, Idu Mishmi, Khneng and Puanchei, alongside the newly introduced Tsüngkotepsü artwork.
