Dimapur, Sep. 4 (EMN): Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Saturday inaugurated staff quarters (type I, II and IIA) and a community centre for the Delhi Nagaland House employees at Sector 13, Dwarka, New Delhi.
The chief minister said during the programme that it was ‘a dream come true’ for him as it was former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who allotted two plots to Nagaland on reserved price when he approached him in 2004 during his first chief ministership, for which is said is still thankful.
An update from Dy. Director, PRO (IPR) stated that Rio lauded the contractors and the department for the workmanship. He said that assets created by government should not be liability but serve its purpose.
He also responded positively to Housing and Mechanical Minister Tongpang Ozukum’s request to provide more funds for completion of the remaining components to avoid cost escalation due to a delay.
The chief minister went on to say that the Nagaland government had achieved two assets in the national capital, at R.K Puram and Dwarka, and one asset at Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra. He wished the officers and staff a comfortable stay in the new quarters as they continue to serve the people.
Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton said that the long-felt need and dream for staff quarters had been achieved. He described Rio as a ‘champion of development’ and that Nagaland had progressed under his dynamic leadership.
He went on to say that the employees should sincerely serve the Nagas who come to the national capital.
Ozukum also said that the project was conceptualised 17 years ago during Rio’s first tenure as state’s Chief Minister, indicating his wisdom and far-sightedness.
He informed that the project took off in the year 2007 with seven components -- staff quarters type I, II and IIA; community centre; power sub-station; basement parking; staff quarters type 4; staff quarters type 5; twin tower -- out of which first four have been completed and the remaining three are under construction.
