
Kohima: The Department of Soil & Water Conservation, Nagaland, celebrated World Meteorological Day on the theme ‘The future of weather, climate, and water across generations’ on Thursday at the directorate conference hall.
Director of Soil & Water Conservation, SK Hekshe, in his address highlighted the importance of meteorological and hydrological services for the safety and well-being of society, an update informed.
The director said World Meteorological Day reminds people of changing climate as well as educate the public on important happenings in meteorology such as global warming and the increased frequency of natural disasters.
Hekshe forewarned that weather, climate and water cycle will be different in the coming years. In view of these changes, he highlighted that the weather, climate and hydrological services will immensely help the people to tackle the associated challenges and seize opportunities, in resonance with this year’s theme.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]In commemoration of the World Meteorological Day, the Director also released a booklet titled ‘Meteorological report of Nagaland 2022,’ which was published by the Soil Survey and Land Use Planning Wing (SSLUP) of the department.
Joint Director and state nodal officer for Meteorology, Rongsenlemzung, who chaired the programme, in his remark stated that the ultimate goal of agriculture meteorology is to extend and fully deploy knowledge of atmospheric related processes. This will optimise agriculture production and increase profitability, decrease risk and feed an increasing global population, he said.
“Life is like weather, sometimes it is sunny and sometimes it pours, however at the end there will always be a rainbow,” the chairman said in his concluding remark.
