  • DIMAPUR — All the districts across Nagaland celebrated the 15th National Voters’ Day on Saturday on the theme "Nothing like voting, I vote for sure."

  • National Voters’ Day is observed every year on January 25 with an objective to encourage, facilitate and maximize enrolment, especially for new voters. The day has been celebrated since 2011 across the country to mark the foundation of the Election Commission of India in 1950.

  • Kohima: The National Voters Day in Kohima was held at the conference hall of the deputy commissioner’s (DC) office.

  • Delivering the keynote address, the DC of Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant, emphasised the importance of voter’s participation in strengthening democracy.

  • “Voting is not just a right but also a responsibility, a way to shape the future of our country and build a better society,” Ramnikant said.

  • He expressed concern over urban and youth voter apathy and urged citizens to actively engage in elections.

  • The district SVEEP Icon, Vihuzo Kense, inspired the audience with a story of a 90-year-old woman’s unwavering commitment to voting and called upon everyone especially the youth to honour their responsibility as voters.

  • The best BLO award winner, Lhingboi Singson, shared her journey of overcoming challenges to transform her polling station into an efficient electoral hub.

  • The booth level officers (BLO) were also honoured for their exceptional performance in electoral roll preparation during the special summary revision and continuous updation.

  • The first-time voters were also felicitated during the event and the voter’s pledge was administered by ADC and ERO of Kohima, Rhosietho Ngouri.

  • Dimapur: The National Voters Day programme in Dimapur was held at the conference hall of the deputy commissioner’s office, which was chaired by the ADC of Dimapur, Zakabo V Rotokha.

  • In his welcome address, the ADC encouraged all voters to make their voices heard and take pride in contributing to a brighter and stronger future through their participation.

  • During the prorgamme, winners of the essay writing and painting competitions were also felicitated. Besides, the best BLOs were also honoured.

  • The DC of Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, administered the Voter’s Pledge and delivered a speech emphasising the need for active electoral participation and the power of every vote. He also called upon the youth to act as ambassadors of democracy by spreading awareness among their peers.

  • Phek: The National voters' Day in Phek was celebrated at the conference hall of the DC’s office in Phek town with John Tsulise Sangtam, DC of Phek, as the special guest.

  • Speaking on the importance of voting, DC encouraged the young voters to vote for change in the society.

  • The Voter’s Pledge was administered by SDO (C) and AERO of Phek, Saratho Kaitry.

  • The best BLOs were also honoured during the programme.

  • Kiphire: The National Voters' Day in Kiphire was celebrated at the conference hall of the DC’s office in Kiphire town with Temsuwati Longkumer, DC of Kiphire, as the special guest.

  • EAC and AEO of Kiphire, Nitile Tep, chaired the programme and administered the Voter's Pledge to the officials, BLOs and first-time voters.

  • Distribution of electoral photo identity cards (EPIC) and felicitation of BLOs were other highlights of the celebration.

  • Tuensang: Tuensang district administration, in collaboration with Akashvani Kohima celebrated the National Voters' Day at DC’s conference hall in Tuensang town.

  • Speaking at the programme, the DC and DEO of Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, congratulated the first-time voters and encouraged them to take part in the election process. She also appreciated the works done by the BLOs in their respective areas to keep the electoral roll clean.

  • The keynote address was delivered by Abino Lasuh, ADP and HoP of Akashvani Kohima, while songs were presented by Langa Voice and Mütten Hau from Tuensang village.

  • Felicitation of first time voters, NVD message by ECI, and administration of Voter’s Pledge were other highlights of the programme.

  • The best BLO and winners of the essay writing and extempore speech competitions were also feliciated.

  • Wokha: The National Voters’ Day in Wokha was celebrated at the conference hall of DC’s office in Wokha town.

  • In his keynote address, the DC of Wokha, Vineet Kumar, highlighted the contrast between India's democratic system and the political regimes in neighbouring countries, where citizens do not have the privilege of voting to elect their leaders. He also stressed the importance of every voter, particularly the newly enrolled young voters, in taking responsibility for electing their political representatives.

  • He acknowledged the election officers for their efforts in promoting the ideal of equal opportunities for all citizens of India.

  • During the programme, two BLOs and two new voters were felicitated during the programme.

  • The ADC of Wokha administered Voter’s Pledge.

  • Mokokchung: The District Election Office, in collaboration with Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) of Fazl Ali College (FAC), celebrated National Voters’ Day at the conference hall of DC’s office in Mokokchung town.

  • The guest of honour and vice principal of FAC, LS Vinod Kumar, stated that National Voters’ Day is celebrated to disseminate the importance of voting. He encouraged all the voters to exercise their fundamental rights to strengthen the democratic process and elect the right representatives for the growth of the nation.

  • In his keynote address, the DC of Mokokchung, Thsuvisie Phoji, called for active participation of all the enrolled voters in the democratic process of the nation. He also described the BLOs as backbone of the democratic process to enroll and bring out proper electoral rolls for a clean and fair election process.

  • The guest of honour felicitated the newly enrolled voters and administered the Voters’ Pledge, while the DC gave away awards to 10 best BLOs.Selected file

  • Peren: The National Voters' Day in Peren district was held at PTWWO Hall in Peren town with the additional deputy commissioner (ADC) and district electoral officer (DEO) of Peren, Keyirangding Hegui, as the special guest.

  • Speaking on the significance of the day, Hegui reminded the young electors to exercise their responsibility and vote bravely in every election. He also congratulated all the awardees and newly enrolled electors.

  • The Peren district SVEEP Icon, Kimkhailiu Pamai, encouraged the youngsters to come forward and enroll themselves. Stating that every vote counts, she said, “When we come together, it can make big decision.”

  • Over 210 persons from various sections of society attended the programme.

  • Noklak: The National Voters' Day in Noklak was celebrated at DC’s conference hall in Noklak town.

  • Speaking on the occasion, the DC and DEO of Noklak, Arikumba, congratulated winners of the essay writing competition, best BLO award recipients all the newly enrolled young voters. He shared the importance of educating and spreading awareness about the electoral process among friends and students.

  • He also encouraged all the eligible voters about the enrolment process and advised them to cast their vote for the capable leader who can lead and work for the community. He further urged the youth to not only participate but also use their votes wisely for change.

  • The EAC and AEO in-charge of Noklak, Menlom Phom, emphasised the need to understand one’s voting rights stating that having voting rights is a privilege as well as a responsibility. He urged every young responsible voter to elect their representatives and exercise their rights wisely.

  • Tseminyu: The National Voters’ Day in Tseminyu was celebrated at the DC’s conference hall in Tseminyu town, chaired by SDO (Civil), Tsidi, who also administered the Voter’s Pledge.

  • Speaking on the theme, Runohile Keppen, Tseminyu campus ambassador, stated that the Indian constitution has given right to every man and woman above 18 years to exercise their adult franchise freely. She appealed to everyone to cast their vote with responsibility for a better and brighter future.

  • The DC of Tseminyu, Rohit Singh, stated that vote has the potential to make a difference and a power to give a better future.
