
DIMAPUR — Across Nagaland, citizens came together to celebrate India’s 77th Independence Day on Tuesday. Festivities and commemorative events were held in multiple towns and sub-divisions, to mark the day.
From flag hoistings and march-pasts to cultural performances, the day was filled with displays of gratitude for India's hard-won freedom.
Medziphema: Independence Day was celebrated at the local ground of Medziphema town, with Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, advisor for School Education and SCERT, as the special guest.
Upon his arrival, Yhome hoisted the national flag and took the Rashtriya Salute, then inspected the parade contingents before delivering his Independence Day speech. Students from SFS Higher Secondary School, Medziphema, sang the national anthem.
According to a DIPR report, eight contingents participated in the march-past, led by parade commander Arenla Jamir, ABI, NAPTC Chümoukedima, and second in command Imlamongba, ABSI, commissioner of police, Dimapur.
SFS Higher Secondary School and King David Higher Secondary School received awards for the best contingents in the march-past.
Around 1,500 people attended the celebration, including government employees, GBs, NGOs, public leaders, students, and the general public. The traditional beating of retreat ceremony concluded the programme.

He hoisted the national flag, delivered the Independence Day speech, and took the salute from eleven contingents. Kumtsu Yimchunger, Adjutant 11th (NAP) IR Bn., Aboi, reviewed the parade.
Students from St. John Higher Secondary School sang the national anthem, and there was a special performance by students from Government Polytechnic Aboi, as well as choreography by students from Longshang Memorial High School.

He hoisted the National flag, took salute from the parade contingents, and led the pledge for a drug-free Nagaland. The national anthem on the occasion was sung by students of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Bhandari.
The parade contingents were led by ABSI M Eshothung and included the 7th NAP Batallion, DBHSS Bhandari, NCC GHSS Bhandari, DBS class 12 students, and the 7th NAP Unit School.
Later, the special guest inaugurated stalls set up by the Agriculture Department, the Medical Department, the sub-divisional industries (SDIC) Bhandari, the Lotha Lower Range Baptist Churches, women groups, and various self-help groups from the Bhandari sub-division.
Meluri: Along with the rest of the country, the 77th Independence Day was celebrated at Meluri local ground, with advisor New & Renewable Energy and NSDMA, Z Nyusietho Nyuthe as the chief guest. GHSS Meluri performed the national anthem on the occasion.
The chief guest delivered the Independence Day speech and administered the drug-free pledge to all attendees.
He also took the Rashtriya Salute from the contingents comprising VGs of Akhegwo, VGs pipe band of Meluri, Government Hr. Sec. School of Meluri, Christian Hr. Sec. School, NCC girls of the Christian Hr. Sec. School of Meluri, St. Xavier Hr. Sec. School of Meluri, and the NCC girls of the St. Xavier Hr. Sec. School of Meluri.
The parade was led by ABSI, Jonny Chakhesang F'Coy, 5th NAP Meluri, and Hav. Pongrhong Konyak, F'Coy, 5th NAP Meluri, as the parade's first and second commanders.
Pungro: Pungro town and its surrounding areas came together to celebrate India’s 77th Independence Day at the Pungro public ground on Tuesday. S Kiusumew Yimchunger, advisor for Fire & Emergency Services, Home Guards & Civil Defence, and Relief & Rehabilitation, was the special guest for the occasion.
The event included exhibitions by various NGOs, SHGs, and government departments, as well as the presentation of certificates of merit to distinguished individuals. Yimchunger also inaugurated CCTV at Pungro Police Station on the occasion.
The day's festivities concluded with an exhibition football match between civil societies and government service XI.
Tamlu: The Tamlu sub-division celebrated the 77th Indian Independence Day on Tuesday at the public playground, Tamlu, with MLA B Bangtick Phom as special guest. He hoisted the national flag, took the Rashtriya Salute from 11 parade contingents, and later inaugurated the CCTV at Tamlu Police Station.
Cheiphobozou: The 77th Indian Independence Day was celebrated at Cheiphobozou local ground on Tuesday with Picto Shohe, MLA, as the special guest.
He hoisted the national flag and took the Rashtriya Salute from the parade contingents comprised of the 10th IRB Zadima, ex-servicemen Chiechama, GHSS Chiechama, GHS Nerhema Model, and DBS Chiephobozuo (boys and girls).
On the occasion, the personnel from the fire station, Chiephobozuo, gave a demonstration on how to extinguish fire as well as safety measures. The MLA also inaugurated the exhibition stall.
Mangkolemba: The 77th Independence Day was celebrated at the public ground at Mangkolemba with fervour and patriotism. The event saw the presence of Temjenmenba, advisor for Transport and Technical Education, as the special guest.
The advisor hoisted the national flag, which was followed by the inspection of parade contingents.
E Coy 2nd NAP, Tzutapela, Govt. Higher Secondary School, Mangkolemba, Baptist Higher Secondary School, Mangkolemba, St. Andrews School, Mangkolemba, and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Longnak, were among the notable participants in the celebration.
Tizit: The 77th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and pride at the local ground, Tizit, with special guest Tongpang Ozukum, advisor for Water Resources.
Ozukum hoisted the national flag on the occasion and took the salute of 14 parade contingents led by parade commander ABI Agoak.
The felicitation of 'Veeron Ka Vandan' by the special guest, paying tribute to the sacrifice of rifleman late NK Konyak, 46 AR, who bravely served the nation, was a special moment during the event.
The event concluded with the advisor inaugurating CCTV camera at the police station at Tizit Hq.
Seyochung: India’s 77th Independence Day was celebrated at the Seyochung public ground, with MLA Benei M Lamthiu serving as the special guest.
The students of St. Mary's High School sang the national anthem on the occasion, and the parade contingents, which included VG Yangzitong Village 'A' and 'B' and St. Mary's High School, were led by Nikihe Chishi, subedar major of VGA.
The special guest also inaugurated the CCTV camera at the police outpost station, Seyochung Hq.
The celebration included participation from heads of offices, GBs, VCC members, and the general public.
Aghunato: The 77th Independence Day celebration took place at the public ground of Aghunato town on Tuesday, with G Ikuto Zhimomi, advisor for Land Resources, gracing the event as the special guest.
The event included the hoisting of the national flag, a salute to the nation, and the reading of the Independence Day speech by advisor Zhimomi.
According to a DIPR report, following his speech, he led the attendees in administering the pledge for a drug-free Nagaland.
Cultural dances and presentations by students from various schools added to the celebration.
Zhimomi also inaugurated exhibition stalls as part of the festivities and later inaugurated the CCTV cameras at the Aghunato Police Station.
CHS: The Chümoukedima Hindu Society (CHS) paid a visit to the central jail in Chümoukedima district to commemorate India's 77th Independence Day on Tuesday.
According to a press release, on the occasion, CHS distributed essential items and refreshments to all central jail inmates and staff.
Pintu M Ghosh, working president of CHS, addressed the gathering on the importance of India's independence and further outlined the roles and responsibilities of society during a brief programme with the prison authorities and inmates, while Sneha Das presented patriotic songs.
IRCSN: The IRCSN observed the 77th Independence Day along with the rest of the country.
The team visited the TB hospital at Khuzama and was led by John Kath, finance secretary and treasurer, Sawathang Kez, vice chairman, and IRCSN managing committee members and staff.
According to a press release, there was a brief programme, which was followed by interaction with hospital staff and patients. The IRCSN also provided blankets and food to the patients.
Assam Rifles: To commemorate the 77th Independence Day, the 11th Assam Rifles Company Zunheboto, under the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, organised a variety of activities in and around the Zunheboto district.
The Zunheboto Company of Assam Rifles organised an audio-video session for NCC cadets in Zunheboto. The purpose of the session was to provide an overview of the Flag Code. The programme aimed to educate and inspire young people about the importance of the national flag, as well as instill patriotism and national pride.
119 cadets and 25 school students participated in the session.
A short documentary titled ‘76 Past Glorious Years of Independence’ was also shown alongside the history of the tricolour.
A press release also mentioned a ‘cultural odyssey’ exposure and educational tour for government school students to provide students with a unique opportunity to explore and experience Nagaland's rich cultural heritage.
The tour will take students to historical and cultural landmarks such as the WW2 cemetery, the museum of the Cultural Department, and Kisama, the Heritage Village, where they will have the opportunity to interact with local communities and learn about their traditions and customs.
Among the activities organised by Zunhebto Coy of the Assam Rifles on the occasion were wreath-laying at the unit war memorial, flag hoisting at Zunheboto Coy location, and guard of honour to the national flag during the parade. A selfie corner was set up at the local parade ground, and flag hoisting was done at platoon locations such as Atoizu, Akuluto, and Charey.
