DIMAPUR — The Confederation of All Nagaland State Service Employees’ Association (CANSSEA) has accused the state government of adopting “double standards” in the matter of IAS induction, despite repeatedly affirming its commitment to meritocracy in recruitments through NPSC and NSSB.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the association alleged that while the government claims meritocracy as the guiding principle for appointments through NPSC and NSSB, it ignores the same principle when it comes to induction into the Indian Administrative Service—the apex of civil service postings.

Raising a series of questions, the CANSSEA asked how “backdoor appointees” could be given equal footing with NPSC recruits in the IAS induction process.

It further sought clarification on why the vacancy circular issued on March 10 was withdrawn after the last date of submission, a move it alleged was made to “pave way for specific favoured individual.”

The association maintained that the government should have rejected applications that did not meet eligibility criteria instead of rescinding the circular itself.

It also called upon the authorities to publish the full list of applicants, the criteria adopted by the screening committee, and the parameters used in the preparation of the select list.

“Is it not discriminatory that lakhs of aspirants must prove their merit through NPSC, while favoured backdoor appointees can secure even IAS induction through manipulation and favouritism?” the statement read.

The CANSSEA asserted that the people of Nagaland and the state service community deserved honest and transparent answers from the government on the issue.
