DIMAPUR — Dr. J Alam, who recently retired as Nagaland Chief Secretary, expressed confidence that Nagaland, with its rich natural and human resources, can achieve developed state status within 20 years.
Speaking at the farewell programme, organised by the Business Association of Nagas (BAN) on Saturday, Dr. Alam has termed as “the greatest honour of my life to serve the people of Nagaland as Chief Secretary.” He described BAN as one of the few organisations genuinely supporting the state’s economic ecosystem, acknowledging its strong policy advocacy and official communications.
While noting the existing challenges, he expressed confidence that Nagaland, with its rich natural and human resources, could achieve developed state status within 20 years.

He further revealed that the Prime Minister, at the recent All India Chief Secretaries’ meeting, devoted nearly 20 minutes to the Nagaland’s potential, emphasising national focus on infrastructure and development in the region.
Also speaking at the programme, BAN’s president, L Mongkum Jamir, praised Dr. Alam’s exemplary public service, stating, “Beginnings matter, but endings define legacies.” He added that Dr. Alam’s career was a model of outstanding governance.
He lauded Dr. Alam’s humility, hard work and commitment and added that 60 years is just the beginning of another innings. With age on his side coupled with vast experience and dedication, Jamir stated that he could continue serving the nation, thereby tremendously impacting citizens across the country.
He further appreciated Dr. Alam’s prompt response to BAN’s proposals, citing the swift posting of a joint director at the MSME Directorate as a notable initiative, who also assured to pursue the pending matters with his successor.
It stated that Dr. Alam was given a standing ovation in honouring his visionary leadership and far-reaching contributions that have positively impacted not only Nagaland’s administration but the state’s overall governance and development landscape.
It further reaffirmed that BAN would continue working toward sustainable economic growth and entrepreneurship in Nagaland through policy advocacy and stakeholder engagement.
The event was attended by the deputy commissioner of Chümoukedima, senior government officials and BAN’s executive council members and office bearers.
