  • DIMAPUR — Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has advised residents to exercise caution as heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected to impact the entire state in the coming days.

  • In a weather advisory issued on Wednesday, the NSDMA predicted widespread rainfall until June 5, accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and lightning.

  • It stated that on May 29, most districts will experience light to moderate rainfall, with heavy to very heavy showers expected in isolated locations of Kohima, Kiphire, Tuensang, Phek, and Mon. Wind speeds are expected to reach 40–50 kmph, with gusts up to 60 kmph, in many districts.

  • From May 29 to May 31, widespread heavy rainfall is anticipated in all of Nagaland’s districts. The advisory highlighted that Kohima, Phek, and Tseminyu will likely face exceptionally heavy rainfall from June 2 to June 5, while other districts may experience extremely heavy showers between June 1 and June 5.

  • “As a result, it is vital to take the necessary measures at this period, including avoiding lightning strikes and high winds, which can disrupt communication and connectivity.

  • “Due to the risk of high precipitation in the hill sector, Nagaland's lowland and foothill districts, including Dimapur, Nuiland, Chümoukedima, Bhandari, Baghty, Tizit, and Tuli, are vulnerable to inundated waterlogging and flash floods,” it warned.

  • District Disaster Management Authorities and related departments have been instructed to remain on high alert to protect lives and property during this active monsoon phase. Citizens have also been advised to stay informed and avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather.

  • “For any emergencies, contact State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC): Toll Free 1070,” it added.
