In protest against the assault of some youth hailing from Hoolungri Tea Estate located in Assam-Nagaland border under Mariani police station, Jorhat,Assam, by suspected Nagas on Wednesday at Changdang village along the border area, a mob consisting of 500 people gathered at zero point, Mariani at around 10:30 am on Thursday and blocked the road thereby causing inconvenience to the commuters of Nagaland bound vehicles, demanding the arrest of the culprits and necessary compensation to be given to the victims.
On receiving the information of the incident, border magistrate, dobashis along with police were deployed at the incident site and detailed reports are awaited since investigation are still on, information from the administration added.
In this regard, it was learned that Jorhat district administration has sought 10 days from the aggrieved mob so that matter can be sorted with the Nagaland counterpart, the report further stated.
An advisory has further been issued to all the commuters of Nagaland bound vehicles to avoid Amguri-Mariani-Titabar route till situation is normal.
