DIMAPUR — The Nagaland state BJP Mahila Morcha will organise an all-women two-wheeler rally and padyatra across districts on April 15, followed by a Mahila Sammelan on April 16, as part of a campaign to build grassroots support for the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam (Women’s Reservation Act) providing 33% reservation for women in Lok Sabha and state Assemblies.
The announcement was made at a press conference held at the BJYM office in Dimapur by state BJP Mahila Morcha president Tsachola Rothrong on Monday.
According to Rothrong, the rally in Dimapur will commence at 6:30 am from the DMC Office at Forest Colony and proceed through Dhobinalla, City Tower, Duncan Basti and Old DC Office before returning to the starting point. She said the programme will be replicated in other districts.
She invited all women supporting the 33% reservation to participate in the rally and extend support to the campaign, adding that people can also register their support by giving a missed call to 9667173333.

Rothrong said the initiative is aimed at taking the message of the Women’s Reservation Act directly to the people and creating awareness on women’s political empowerment.
Expressing optimism over women’s participation in governance, she cited the implementation of reservation in urban local bodies as a significant first step and said it would pave the way for wider representation in legislative bodies.

Addressing concerns over delays in census and delimitation, she said the provisions of the Act are expected to come into effect by 2029 after completion of the required processes. She added that the number of seats in Parliament would increase, with women expected to occupy 273 seats.
On concerns regarding Nagaland, which currently has a single Lok Sabha seat, Rothrong expressed hope that the state would gain an additional seat after delimitation, enabling smoother implementation of reservation.
Calling on educated women to participate in politics, she said reservation alone would not be sufficient unless capable individuals step forward.
“Politics is a risky game, but you should be brave enough to join a political party and take the risk,” she said.
Rothrong said the Act marks a significant milestone for Nagaland, recognising the role of women in community life, culture and social progress, and providing them with a constitutional platform in legislative governance.
She said the BJP Mahila Morcha would focus on identifying and empowering women leaders across districts through awareness drives and capacity-building initiatives to ensure readiness for leadership roles.
Highlighting the party’s approach, she said women’s empowerment is treated as a governance priority rather than an electoral narrative, and reflects the principle of Antyodaya (upliftment of the last person) to ensure development reaches the last woman.
The Mahila Morcha described the legislation as a “generational shift” and said the 106th Constitutional Amendment granting 33% reservation is not symbolic but represents “institutional empowerment in action”.
It also cited initiatives such as Ujjwala connections, Jan Dhan accounts for women and the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ programme, along with rising female enrolment in higher education and increased representation of women in the armed forces, as indicators of women-led development.
Rothrong appealed to all stakeholders to support the implementation of the Act, stating that women’s empowerment is a national priority and a collective responsibility.
