Dimapur, October 11 : The Nagaland unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) responded to the charge of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) that the former was a sectarian stooge of the RSS responsible for persecution of Christians in India.
The BJP issued a response on Tuesday calling the allegations of the Congress “shallow accusations” and claiming that there never had been a case of anti-Christian atrocities by any party branches and departments otherwise which, there would have been a huge hue and cry within the party nationwide.”
The BJP claimed in the press release that the BJP party was a “disciplined cadre based party with no avenues for taking democracy and democratic rights to distorted levels to serve only the selfish needs of the vested interests.”
The unit claimed that there was ‘absolutely no way for party frontals to be engaged in any atrocities against Christians.’ Further, the party claimed that “there never had been a case of anti-Christian atrocities by any party branches and departments otherwise which, there would have been a huge hue and cry within the party nationwide.”
The BJP blamed the previous Congress-led UPA government. “Amnesty International and the International Human Rights Watch Report of 2015 on India mentioned that the year 2013 peaked as the year of the highest escalation of religious violence in the country. The violence was not confined to Christians alone but also among and between major religions in India mainly Hindus and Muslims.”
“If recalled, 2013 was when the UPA Government was at its peak of mis-governance. The high records of inter religious tensions was because the UPA government was lethargic and failed to take corrective measures smartly for the obvious reasons,” the BJP added.
