Executive Committee Members of the Nagaland Bar Association in its meeting held on September 11 reiterated stand in demand for the termination of Advocate General KN Balgopal over his alleged SC remark
DIMAPUR — The Executive Committee Members of the Nagaland Bar Association (NBA) have stated that the “capitulation of the Government Panel Advocates to a Constitutional Authority, which demeaned the very people the said authority is supposed to represent, is unacceptable.”
The NBA said the decision was unanimously arrived at during a meeting held on September 11 to deliberate on the statement issued by the Government Panel Advocates, who had termed the its demand as being “without any Constitutional mandate” and “in defiance of reason and fair play.”
In a statement issued on Saturday following the Executive Committee meeting, the NBA reiterated that its stand is “clear, unambiguous and twofold”: that the Advocate General of the State of Nagaland must be appointed or engaged from among the State’s own legal fraternity, and that the incumbent Advocate General has “insulted and demeaned the very people he is representing.”

The house also resolved to issue a rebuttal to the recent statement of the Additional Advocate Generals Nagaland and Government Panel Advocates, as well as seek the opinions of the federating units on the future course of action in response to the opposition to its decisions.
Expressing dismay over some of its own members going against the its decisions, the NBA also stated that “the interest of the legal fraternity should not be sacrificed for personal gain,” while expressing hope that “good sense will prevail.”
