The Nagaland Baptist Church Council mourns the passing of Niketu Iralu, honouring his legacy of peace, reconciliation, justice and human dignity.
DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) has mourned the passing of Niketu Iralu, describing him as a distinguished elder statesman and “moral voice” of Naga society.
In a condolence message, the NBCC said Iralu was a person of “uncommon wisdom, intellectual depth and unwavering moral conviction” who remained a steadfast advocate of non-violence, reconciliation, dialogue, justice and peace throughout his life.
The council said his voice sought “not to inflame divisions but to illumine a path towards understanding, healing and coexistence.”
It added that his quiet yet resolute commitment to peace-making was exemplary, particularly in an age marked by stridency and polarisation.
The NBCC expressed particular gratitude for Iralu’s contribution to the Church and Naga society, as well as his active engagement with the NBCC Peace Mission.
His counsel and thoughtful interventions, it said, enriched discussions and strengthened the collective pursuit of peace and reconciliation.
“Iralu leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured merely by positions held or initiatives undertaken,” the NBCC stated, noting that his enduring legacy lay in the values he championed, the minds he influenced and the consciences he awakened.
