Dimapur, March 23 (EMN): The government of Nagaland has banned spitting of “tamul/paan/sputum etc.,” in public places and institutions with immediate effect.
A government notification on Monday stated that the order has been issued in the interest of public health and safety.
“The Covid-19 pandemic has brought to the fore the importance of hygiene and cleanliness in both personal as well as public spheres and that it is of outmost need to impose restrictions on unhealthy habits that may potentially lead to spread of such viruses and other infections. The habit of public spitting poses a serious threat to the spread of such infections,” it stated. Violators, it added, will be punished as per relevant laws.

In a separate notification, the government announced that the following have also been exempted from the purview of restriction:
Retired doctors told to be ready
Nagaland Medical Council has requested its members who are not in active medical service—such as, retired doctors—to equip/update themselves their services may be required anytime if the situation demands.
In a statement issued on Monday, the council appreciated the medical fraternity for its contribution towards fighting the Covid-19 pandemic so far.
Auto-rickshaws told not to ply
The Dimapur District Auto-rickshaw Drivers’ Union has directed its members to stop plying their vehicles until further notice.
A press release from the union on Monday stated that the directive has been issued in the interest of public health and safety and to prevent the spread of Covid-19 pandemic.
