Dimapur, Sep. 1 (EMN): Agricultural Technology Management Authority (ATMA) of Kohima district conducted a skill training of rural youth (STRY) programme on value-addition in vegetables from August 22 to the 27th at the conference hall of the DAO’s office.
According to a DIPR report, the programme was conducted in association with State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Medziphema, and National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=6]The deputy project director (ATMA), Rokoshüno Angela, in her keynote address stated that the training was aimed at imparting skill-based training to rural unemployed youth on agri-based vocational areas.
The resource person, Vitsonuo Solo, spoke on the importance of PH processing of fruits and vegetables, principles of vegetable preservation, pre-harvest factors affecting PH quality and fruits and vegetables, ripening, respiration and factors affecting respiration, respiration and factor influencing respiration, harvesting and field handling, packaging materials for vegetables, methods of vegetables preservation, extent and possible causes of PH losses, drying and dehydration, canning, and marketing, it stated.
It stated that hands-on demonstration was imparted to the trainees on bamboo shoot pickles, leek pickle, brinjal pickle, chilli pickle and ginger candy.
Altogether, 28 participants attended the programme from three blocks. It further stated that certificates were awarded to the trainees on the concluding day of the training.
