ATMA Kobulong holds piggery training at Longjang; Longleng farmers tour Guwahati and Shillong for agri exposure.

DIMAPUR — The Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Kobulong Block, Mokokchung, conducted a capacity building programme on the topic “Scientific feeding management in piggery” on Tuesday at Longjang village.
The programme was organised with the objective of enhancing the knowledge and practical skills of women groups in pig farming, an update stated.
Resource person Dr. Sarendi, Assistant Chief Technical Officer (Vety), KVK, explained how pig rearing has gradually evolved from traditional free-range systems to organised sty (intensive) rearing, and likewise highlighted that feeding practices have also developed significantly over the years.
He emphasised practical and economically viable feeding strategies, including, importance of balanced nutrition in pigs, different feed ingredients and their nutritive value.
Dr. Sarendi also elaborated on mineral mixture and vitamin supplementation, feeding management during pregnancy and lactation and reducing feed wastages and improving feed conversion ratio. He also stressed on timely administration of correct dose of de-wormer.

At the end of the programme, mineral mixture and de-wormer were provided by ATMA, Kobulong block. Altogether 10 farmers from Temiem FIG, Tongtepratep CIG, along with ATMA staff and resource person attended the programme.
Longleng farmers undertake exposure tour
The ATMA Longleng also conducted a within-state farmers’ training programme on February 10 and the 11th at MLs Grow Hydroponics Unit, Dimapur and Organic AC Market, Chümoukedima.
The training was followed by structured farmers’ exposure tour and interstate programme from February 12 to the 16th to Guwahati and Shillong, including a technical visit to the ICAR-Central Potato Research Institute, an update stated.
Farmers from Longleng, Tamlu, and Sakshi blocks actively participated in the programme, acquiring hands-on exposure to modern agricultural technologies, innovative cultivation methodologies, and advanced agri-marketing systems.
The programme and exposure tour were led and coordinated by ATMA Longleng Deputy Project Director (DPD), H Mhonthung Merry, ensuring effective technical guidance and knowledge transfer throughout the activities.
