Nagaland Assembly withdraws earlier Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority Bill and schedules revised bill for September 3.
KOHIMA — The Nagaland Legislative Assembly on Tuesday withdrew the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA) Bill, 2026 introduced in March and introduced a new version of the bill during the first day of the ninth session of the 14th NLA.
Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton moved the motion to withdraw the earlier bill, which had been introduced during the eighth session on March 26. Speaker Sharingain Longkumer put the motion before the House, following which it was withdrawn through a voice vote.
The earlier FNTA Bill had been scheduled for consideration and passing on March 27, but the matter was deferred amid concerns over the proposed powers and functions of the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority and the bill was referred back to the state government for further examination.
Following its withdrawal, Patton moved the new FNTA Bill, 2026 for introduction, which was taken up by the House.

The new bill is scheduled for consideration and passing on September 3. The Speaker informed members that amendments or clarifications, if any, should be submitted by 2 pm on Wednesday.
Besides the FNTA Bill, the House introduced five other government Bills on Tuesday.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio introduced the Nagaland Goods and Services Tax (Eleventh Amendment) Bill, 2026; Nagaland Goods and Services Tax (Twelfth Amendment) Bill, 2026; Nagaland Town & Country Planning (Sixth Amendment) Bill, 2026; and the Nagaland Right to Public Services Bill, 2026.
Minister P Paiwang Konyak introduced the Nagaland Paramedical Council (Repeal) Bill, 2026.
The Bills are scheduled to be taken up for consideration and passing on September 3.
