KOHIMA — The United States government has asked its citizens to “reconsider travel” to several Northeastern states, including Nagaland, due to concerns over “terrorism and violence.”

In a Level-2 travel advisory issued by the US government, American citizens were advised against travelling to the Northeast states, citing the presence of ethnic insurgent groups that “occasionally commit acts of violence.”

These acts include bombings targeting buses, trains, railway lines, and marketplaces.

However, the advisory also noted that there have been no recent reports of violence in Assam, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Sikkim, or Tripura.

Additionally, US government employees stationed in India will require prior approval before travelling to Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh, or to any locations outside the capital cities of Assam, Mizoram, Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Tripura.

The advisory further classified Manipur as a ‘Do Not Travel’ zone.

"Ongoing ethnic-based conflict has resulted in reports of extensive violence and community displacement. Attacks against Indian government targets occur on a regular basis.

“US government employees working in India require prior approval before visiting Manipur,” the advisory stated.
