DIMAPUR — Nagaland has been recognised as one
of the ‘Fast Movers’ in the Logistics Ease across Different States (LEADS) 2024
report, which was recently released by Union Minister of Commerce and Industry,
Piyush Goyal, in New Delhi.
The report, now in its sixth edition, evaluates logistics
performance across India and highlights opportunities for improvement in the
sector.
Nagaland joins Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim, and Tripura in
the ‘Fast Movers’ category among north-eastern states, while Assam and
Arunachal Pradesh were recognised as ‘Achievers.’
Manipur was listed as an ‘Aspirer.’
During the launch, Goyal urged the states to develop
regional and city-level logistics plans to enhance last-mile connectivity and
attract investments.
He also emphasised leveraging public-private partnerships
(PPPs) for logistics development and highlighted the importance of creating
multi-modal hubs and inland container depots through transparent bidding
processes.
He urged the logistics sector to adopt the LEAD
framework—Longevity, Efficiency and Effectiveness, Accessibility and
Accountability and Digitalisation—to transform the logistics sector and prepare
India for a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
The minister also called for measures promoting green
logistics, workforce inclusivity, and the adoption of advanced technologies
like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Data Analytics.
He also highlighted the need for skill development and
greater gender inclusivity in the logistics sector, encouraging more
participation of women.
According to the PIB, the 2024 report evaluated logistics
performance across four key pillars: logistics infrastructure, logistics
services, operating and regulatory environment, and the newly introduced
sustainable logistics.
In addition to the LEADS report, the event featured the
felicitation of outstanding contributors to the logistics sector through the
Logistics Excellence, Advancement, and Performance Shield (LEAPS 2024) awards.
