Kohima, Oct. 3 (EMN): The All Nagaland Adhoc Teachers' Group (ANATG)-2015 batch on Monday submitted a representation to the state government rejecting the constitution of a High Powered Committee to address the issue and sought the intervention of the chief minister.
The representation addressed to the chief minister was submitted to his chamber, at the Secretariat, in his absence on Monday.
‘The house (ANATG-2015, 1166 teachers) resolved to submit a direct letter to your table as we believe only your intervention could bring a solution to our sole demand,’ it read, adding that they were “left with no other option” but to protest in the form of an indefinite hunger strike till the matter is resolved.
Signed by the representatives of all 29 units of ANATG-2015 as well as its president and general secretary, the agitating teachers expressed dismay over the matter being “left unattended” during the first four days of their peaceful sit-in, which led to the change of protest mode to hunger strike, following which they were “summoned” for a meeting by the Commissioner and Secretary, SE and SCERT on September 30.
“At the meeting, the ANATG was offered for the formation of High Powered Committee (HPC) to look into our matter, to which the representatives of the ANATG-2015 batch agreed. As all the members of ANATG are gathered at Kohima, the representatives of the ANATG conveyed the proposal to them. Where the general members outrightly resolved to reject the formation of High Power committee (HPC) and agreed and resolved to demand immediate service regularization,” read the representation.
Bendangtemsu Ozukum, a member of ANATG-2015, told Eastern Mirror that the response from the office of the chief minister is still awaited.
Depending on the response, they would decide on what steps to take. Meanwhile, the hunger strike will continue.
‘Though there has been no hospitalisation till Monday evening, the blood pressure of 90 per cent of the teachers on hunger strike was fluctuating on Monday. Some even hit 175-177; hopefully, nothing goes wrong,’ Ozukum said, adding that the protesting teachers, who were hospitalised earlier, are stable now.
The ANATG-2015 batch protest against non-regularisation of their services entered the eighth day on Monday. They had been staging sit-in at the Solidarity Park in Kohima since the agitation was initiated but had to shift out of the location on Monday due to a pre-booking which could not be relocated.
