DIMAPUR, JULY 15 : The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) unit of Nagaland has demanded immediate disqualification of all the 24 legislators in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly who are currently holding the post of parliamentary secretary.
At a news conference here today, the convener of AAP Nagaland, Dr Amos Longkumer, said that the parliamentary secretaries in Nagaland were “enjoying a number of perks” that include facility of cars, bungalows, fat salaries, police security and equivalent status to that of ministers.
This, he pointed out, falls under the “purview of office of profit” as per Article 191 (1) of the Constitution of India. A representation containing the same demand, for disqualification of the parliamentary secretaries, was submitted by the party to the governor of Nagaland on July 13 last.
Citing the recent disqualification of legislators in the Delhi Assembly by the chief election commissioner on grounds of holding offices of profit, Longkumer said that the same should be “uniformly” applied to the case of Nagaland too.
“AAP Nagaland will go in for legal action if the high offices does (sic) not take appropriate action on the memorandum submitted (to the governor) and that if only the MLAs of Delhi Assembly is disqualified,” according to Longkumer.
He also informed that the national convener of AAP, Arvind Kejriwal would be having an “interactive session/dialogue with people across the globe” on Saturday, from 11 am onwards. The programme has been called as ‘Talk to AK’, and interested citizens could participate in it by connecting through the website www.talktoak.com. They can also dial at 011-23392999 or send SMS on 8130344141, he informed.
