Dimapur, Sep. 4 (EMN): The department of Health and Family Welfare has informed that 99% of Covid-19 samples received during July 2 and September 2 this year in Nagaland were found to be of the Delta variant, which has been categorised as a variant of concern by World Health Organisaton.
Citing Israel’s data, the department’s weekly bulletin stated that vaccination would be critical to save lives during the third wave and those vaccinated too should continue follow Covid-appropriate behaviour to stop transmission, especially of the delta variant and booster doses might be needed.
The weekly Covid-19 sample positivity rate in Nagaland has increased from 2.3% in the previous week to 3% last week ending Sep. 3, after week-on-week new cases increased from 359 to 403, which is 12% rise.
The number of weekly deaths also increased from five to 12 – six in Dimapur, five in Kohima and one in Mokokchung.
“Weekly new Covid-19 hospital admissions increased by 27% as 70 patients were admitted with moderate or severe disease. Dimapur (38) and Kohima (14) reported the maximum admissions,” read the update.
It said maximum confirmed cases in the state so far were in the 21–30-year age group and most deaths were in the 46-60 age group (172 deaths). “The young and healthy can be drivers of transmission,” it added.
“45% of deaths died within 48 hours of arrival to hospital. This implies late arrival to hospital with very advanced symptoms. Timely treatment is critical for survival,” it informed, adding that 36 died in home isolation, indicating the need for timely referral to hospital.
It went on to inform that 8,75,378 doses of vaccines had been administered across the state, with Dimapur, Kohima, Mokokchung, Longleng and Mon registering highest vaccination coverage.
