Dimapur, Sep. 8 (EMN): A total of 69 cases were registered under economic offences in Nagaland during 2021, showing a decreasing trend as compared to 101 cases registered in 2020.
Out of three specified categories of economic offences namely criminal breach of trust, FCF (forgery, cheating and fraud) and counterfeiting; FCF accounted for maximum cases with 47, followed by criminal breach of trust with 22 cases during 2021.
Nagaland registered the least number of cases among the eight north-eastern states, while Assam topped the list with 11809 cases registered under economic offences.
Assam was followed by Meghalaya with 385 cases, Tripura with 230, Mizoram 222, Arunachal Pradesh 160, Manipur 135 and Sikkim 70 cases.
Nagaland has a total of 182 cases under investigation, which includes 113 cases reported from the previous year, according to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report 2021.
Here again Assam topped the list with a total of 29861 cases under investigation for economic offences, followed by Manipur with 2114 cases, Meghalaya 865 cases, Tripura 632 cases, Arunachal Pradesh 449 cases, Mizoram 306 cases and Sikkim 163 cases, as on 2021.
A total of 81 persons were arrested in Nagaland and 45 people were charge-sheeted, the report stated.
A total of 1, 74, 013 cases were registered under economic offences in India, showing an increase of 19.4% in registration over 2020 (1, 45, 754 cases). Out of the three categories, FCF accounted for the maximum of such cases, with 1,52,073 cases, followed by criminal breach of trust (21,241 cases) and counterfeiting (699 cases) during 2021.
